Flood Defence Wall

150m stone faced flood defence wall, Sherston

Sherston is near the source of the River Avon which runs through Bath and Bristol. The stream runs past two sides of the mill and rose rapidly one night several years ago, possibly because of a culvert blockage, flooding the mill.

While the insurance company paid for the refurbishment which I managed, they insisted on a flood defence capable of withstanding a future event which might happen within 500 years.

The concrete wall is faced in local Cotswold stone laid to look like a dry stone wall.
